Arctech Helsinki Shipyard delivered a new icebreaking standby vessel

On Thursday June 15, 2017 Helsinki Shipyard delivered and held naming ceremony for a new multifunctional icebreaking standby DCIM100MEDIADJI_0022.JPGvessel for Sovcomflot for the Sahalin-2 project.

The vessel is the second from four vessel order agreed with SCF Group and the first vessel was delivered in the end of January 2017. The multifunctional standby vessel had naming and delivering ceremony at the same time. Icebreaking standby vessel was named after Russian vice admiral and a polar explorer Stepan Makarov and she got a Godmother from Arctic Maritime Institute’s director Ekaterina Smyaglikova.

Stepan Makarov (deadweight 3,300 t) is under Russian flag and her home port is St. Petersburg in Russia. Her main duty from the beginning is support Sakhalin-2 project in the Sea of Okhotsk.

Icebreaker Stepan Makarov fulfills international standards of ship construction that takes into account operations in hard, arctic conditions. Her ice class is 6 according classification of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.
