Building the hull of the icebreaking multipurpose supply vessel for Sovcomflot, Russia’s largest shipping company, started today at the Arctech Helsinki shipyard with a festive keel laying. The vessel is the first of four icebreaking sister ships Sovcomflot has ordered.

The naming ceremony of the new-generation icebreaker built at Arctech Helsinki Shipyard took place today on December 11. In keeping with old shipbuilding tradition, a bottle of champagne was broken against the hull of the ship during the name-giving event. Paula Risikko, Second Deputy Speaker of the Finnish Parliament, serves as the vessel’s godmother.
Icebreaker Murmansk left on Sea Trial

Icebreaker Murmansk, built for Russian Rosmorport, left on sea trial 29 November 2015 from Arctech Helsinki Shipyard. The trial will last couple of days and is part of the test use of the ship, which is done to assure the functionality of the vessel systems. Read more
