At Arctech we are not only experienced but also the forerunner in developing and applying technological innovations.
We have reputation as preferred shipbuilder for many of the world´s most advanced ship owners. Our products contain innovative solutions, which in many cases originate from our own development activities or from our co-operation with the ship owners and equipment suppliers in introducing new technologies.
We have a long history in the arctic marine research. The first ice model test basin was established in 1969. Today it is known as Aker Arctic Technology Inc. Today we are able to perform – in co-operation with Aker Arctic Technology Inc. – scientific research in ice and ice breaking physics and full scale measurements of ice loads on hull and propeller.
To improve the icebreaking capability of vessels we have done continuous development on hull form and other features realted to the operation performance. During the years we have introduced several innovative solutions for ice-breaking and arctic vessels, like the heeling and air bubbling systems, low friction hull coating, AC-AC diesel-electric propulsion. The diesel-electric azimuthing propulsion system, today known as Azipod®, was developed in cooperation with Finnish Maritime Administration and Helsinki Yard Arctic Research Centre, today known as Aker Arctic Technology Inc.
